Welcome to Laurel Kindergarten!

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

I welcome your child to Laurel Kindergarten. I'm looking forward to a year of learning fun. I'm sure that your child is eager to begin this new world of activity.

School begins at 8:10. If a child arrives before 8:10, he or she must wait in the bus room (gym). If any children have trouble carrying coats, bookbags, etc., they will be helped. If a child is picked up before 3:10, he or she must be signed out in the office.

Good attendance is crucial, beginning in kindergarten. Please call the school by 8:30 if your child must be absent. During the first few days of school, you will receive a letter regarding the school board policy on attendance. Please review it carefully and save it for future reference.

There will be a red folder in your child's bookbag that needs to come back to school each day. I have found that the best way to make sure that you get what I send home, and that I get what you send back is to use the red folder. Any money or notes should be put into an envelope and labeled with your child's name and labeled "Parent Note" or "Lunch Money", for example, and put into the folder.

I will be assigning a small amount of homework from time to time. It will rarely take more than five minutes or so. It is important that you encourage your child to take these assignments seriously, in the interest of developing good work habits now.
