Welcome to Laurel Bloomery's Community and History

Parent and Community partnerships are evident at Laurel School in an abundance of ways. The community takes a great deal of pride in Laurel School. The Laurel Volunteer Fire Department actively involves the children in a series of activities related to fire prevention and the emergency 911 system. National Textiles, N & N Ball and Roller, and the area Banks actively support the school through individual educational programs and funding of educational materials such as weekly readers. Parents take an active role in the school through the PTO, fundraising, sports, volunteering, and the participation of field trips and school sponsored programs. Our area newspaper "The Tomahawk" publishes the Honor Roll and perfect attendance honors as well as photographs and write ups of student achievements, such as 4-H activities, classroom activities, and money raised for United Way.

Teachers at Laurel effectively communicate behavior and academic progress on a wide scale system ranging from daily reports, weekly, and midterm progress reports sent home with the students, phone calls are made to parents to inform them of both positive and negative progress by each student in the are of behavior, academics, and attendance. Parent-teacher conferences are held at a minimum of two per year and parents are invited to conference with any teacher at any time during the school year. Faculty composes newsletters regarding classroom and schooled events. These events include activities in the classroom and schoolwide activities and meetings, such as Title I information, and meetings to keep parents informed. In addition to the other academic programs at Laurel School, we offer programs of interest in a variety of areas. As students grow academically they are encouraged to participate in various activities offered by the school and community to help them to become more socially developed individuals.
