Reading receives top priority at Laurel Elementary. Title 1 funding allows us to utilize our paraprofessionals as tutors as well as allowing purchases to enhance our curriculum. Recently, we were able to hire a mentor/tutor at our school due to funding from the Safe Schools, Healthy Children grant. Our tutor focuses on reading achievement in grades K-6 as well as mentoring students at our school. Through partnership with Virginia Highlands Community College, Laurel Elementary is currently utilizing a student tutor in reading in Kindergarten and First Grade.
