Welcome

At Laurel Elementary School, everyone displays their "Panther Pride" each and every day. We are proud of our school and proud of the wonderful things we have accomplished. We continue to strive to excel and build a student-centered learning environment.

Reading receives top priority at Laurel Elementary. Title 1 funding allows us to utilize our paraprofessionals as tutors as well as allowing purchases to enhance our curriculum. Recently, we were able to hire a mentor/tutor at our school due to funding from the Safe Schools, Healthy Children grant. Our tutor focuses on reading achievement in grades K-6 as well as mentoring students at our school. Through partnership with Virginia Highlands Community College, Laurel Elementary is currently utilizing a student tutor in reading in Kindergarten, First Grade,  and Second Grade.

Recognizing the importantance of home and school working together, we encourage family involvement. We are fortunate to have several "regular" parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles who volunteer at our school. Primary grades also promote family involvement through take-home activities that support class assignments.

At Laurel Elementary we believe that together we can make a difference. We continue to strive to meet and exceed goals in attendance and achievement through a collaborative effort between students, parents, teachers, and the community. We are now SACS accredited at Laurel Elementary! With a wonderful staff, extraordinary students, and the help of terrific parents, we have high expectations for success for all.
